Attention: The next general membership Union meeting is scheduled for Sunday November 5 ,2017 at 6:00 PM. It will be held at our Union Hall, click on tab marked "directions to Union hall" if you never visited your Union hall. This is a very important Union meeting so please make plans to attend.

FYI

Even though the last excessing attempt was stopped, our Local was informed that we are under a new excessing event. The numbers are somewhat reduced from the last proposed excessing event, however, the Union will never agree to ANYONE being excessed. The new numbers are twenty (20) Full Time Regulars and twenty-six (26) PSE’s. The movement for this event will occur on February 3, 2018. As you are aware, a lot of things can change before that date. There have been several employees talking about retirement by 2018 and one does not know if Amazon’s new services will increase our business.

On Tuesday 29, 2017 the Union attended our first excessing meeting with many people representing the USPS. Our APWU Eastern Region Coordinator, Mike Gallagher, along with Trina Wynn, Karen Jester- Witkowski, Leon Tucker and myself argued the excessing event. The information the USPS submitted to the APWU had many errors throughout the documentation. This was the first phase of much more to come in fighting this excessing event, however, the Union was successful in reducing the number of full-time clerks the USPS wanted to excess from twenty (20) to thirteen (13). The APWU will keep fighting until the number of proposed excessed PSE’s and Full Time Regulars both reach zero!

The USPS gave the APWU several jobs (landing spots) in the fifty (50) mile radius and many of them are still right here in the plant and stations. Since we are currently under the blanket of Article 12, anyone requesting a transfer would also get certain priorities. Please don’t think because I am telling you this information you should consider changing crafts or look for a transfer, I just want to have an informed membership and let everyone know there are options. February 3, 2018, is still far off, and the APWU will be monitoring all work hours and all overtime hours to debunk this bogus excessing event the USPS thinks it needs. The numbers they provided the APWU do not add up. The amount of earned work hours and the overtime use and just human nature (sick, annual, and emergencies) is a pipe dream calculation the USPS submitted to the Union.

This is my last FYI to the membership because as of September 2, 2017, I will be retired from the USPS. It was the greatest pleasure of my life to be APWU Local 152 President during the last two years. I tried my very best to represent the membership and to get our Local back on track and create a filing system that works and it easy to use. We now have a Union Hall and are not at the mercy of other establishments by allowing us to meet. We have been very successful in educating our Stewards and abiding by our budget and kept spending down. The percentage of Union members has risen and is currently over 90% organized. I could not have done any of the above without my Executive Board members and Shop Stewards. Vice President, Trina Wynn kept me in-line on clerk issues and staying within our Local’s constitution and Doug Ritter worked hard in finding a building for our Local and has kept the Local’s finances right on target. I am leaving the Union in extremely capable hands.

Trina will be an excellent President and has the fire inside her to fight management and represent each and every APWU member. I’m going to miss all my membership, friends and co-workers but it is time for me to leave and pass the baton. The Executive Board members and your shop stewards will continue to fight this excessing event and any other problems that affect our membership. It has been a true pleasure being your President.

Your Truly,

Dominick J. Lombardi Jr.

Past President APWU Local 152
